DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE:
Throughout his thirty years of practice, Mr. Grenley has concentrated on the prevention, resolution and litigation of business and commercial disputes, with special emphasis in the areas of securities, real estate, antitrust, financing, employment, trade regulation, competition and other complex business-related matters. He is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Oregon, including the Oregon Supreme Court, the Eastern District of Washington, the District of Oregon, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Cases litigated include both prosecution and defense in the following areas: securities and antitrust class actions (including national and multi-district litigation); business employment and competitive disputes; sales and distribution; mergers and acquisitions; venture capitalization, LBOs and other financing arrangements; public offerings, private placements and IPO’s; broker-customer disputes (including arbitration before NYSE and NASD tribunals); broker-dealer regulation; banking and savings & loan matters; RTC litigation; real estate acquisitions and dispositions; public and private syndications and joint ventures; foreclosures (judicial and non-judicial); corporate organization, reorganization and liquidation; employee and shareholder disputes; creditor rights; general and limited partnership matters; director and officer responsibilities; trade regulation; employment and ERISA litigation; and professional negligence (legal, accounting and real estate).
Since commencing practice in 1975, Mr. Grenley has litigated a series of major corporate, securities and antitrust cases including the following, many of which were certified as class actions: Agbanc Securities Litigation; Arco Dealer Termination Litigation; Bank of the Nations Securities Litigation; Digimarc Derivative Litigation; Electro Scientific Securities Litigation; Enron Corp. Securities Litigation, on behalf of PGC Shareholders; Far West Federal S&L Litigation; Forest City Trading Group Employment Litigation; Gregory Government Securities Litigation; Hollywood Entertainment Derivative and Securities Litigation; Lattice Securities Litigation; Louisiana-Pacific ERISA Litigation; Metropolitan Mortgage Securities Litigation; Merix Derivative Litigation; Microfield Group Securities Litigation; Microsoft Antitrust Litigation; Nike Securities Litigation; Nikken, Inc. Distributor Litigation; Specialty Polymers Securities Litigation; and Sugar Antitrust Litigation.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:
Since 1975, Mr. Grenley has been an active member of the Antitrust, Securities and Litigation Sections of the Oregon State Bar. From 1978 to 1981 he served on the Executive Committee of the Securities Section. He is also a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Multnomah Bar Association and the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Grenley was elected in 1991 to the Chair of the Business Litigation Section of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Grenley also served on the initial Executive Committee of the Dispute Resolution Section of the Oregon State Bar. In 1993, Mr. Grenley was appointed Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He is past Chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section of the Oregon State Bar and prior member of the Multnomah Bar Judicial Screening Committee.
Mr. Grenley has written law review and continuing legal education articles, and has lectured, concerning federal and state securities matters, antitrust and trade regulation, litigation and arbitration, professional negligence and damages. He has also served as an expert witness concerning issues involving securities compliance, professional malpractice and reasonable attorneys’ fees. He is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association (Panel of Commercial Arbitrators), the National Arbitration Forum, and the National Association of Securities Dealers.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:
For over twenty-five years, Mr. Grenley has been a member of the Portland City Club, serving on its standing and study committees and chairing the committee which presented to the City Club its study and recommendations concerning a state-wide radioactive waste ballot measure. He is a member of the Multnomah Athletic Club, the Oregon Art Institute, Tualatin Country Club and Portland Golf Club.
Mr. Grenley’s personal interests include recreational and competitive sports, travel, wineries, literary/visual and performing arts, as well as involvement in family, social and charitable activities. He also serves as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children (CASA).
